Thank you to everyone who came to our community input meetings about a new Richland Park branch library. A record-setting number of patrons and neighbors participated, making the conversation strong.
Here’s what we heard during seven community meetings:
- You use this space frequently. In fact, 40 percent of the people who took our Richland Park survey reported they visit once or twice a week to read, borrow books, DVDs and CDs, or go to a workshop, class, or story time.
- You want room to sit comfortably and read, study (and plug in your laptop!), and meet with other people.
- You want Richland Park to keep its neighborhood feel. You want to be able to walk and bike there. What’s more, using the library is an indoor and outdoor experience. The natural space around the building is just as important as what’s inside.
- You want the Richland Park location to grow as you and your families grow, with safe, comfortable space where little ones to go to story time, read, and play and older children and teens feel comfortable learning.
So what’s next?
Community meetings were an important first step in envisioning our library’s future in the Richland Park area. Now, it’s time to get started on a plan. That means working with city officials and community representatives to secure funding and explore next steps for building and design.
