Fostering Creativity: Writer Support Groups at the Library

February 28, 2025

Writing is often seen as a solitary act — just a writer, a blank page, and an idea waiting to be shaped. But anyone who has spent time wrestling with words knows that creativity thrives in community. That’s why over at the Hermitage branch we offer a Writer Support Group, a space where local writers can connect, share their work, and support one another through the creative process!

Libraries have always been a home for storytellers.

They provide not only books (they are only half the story, after all), but they also provide a sense of belonging for those who create them. Whether you’re working on a novel, poetry, memoir, or just exploring the craft, this group is designed to offer encouragement, feedback, and camaraderie.

Through monthly meetings, we discuss writing challenges, workshop pieces in a constructive and supportive environment, and offer motivation to keep going. It’s a reminder that writing doesn’t have to be a lonely pursuit. Libraries, as centers of learning and community, are the perfect place to bring writers together — not just as individuals working on their own projects, but as a collective of creatives lifting each other up.

If you’re looking for inspiration, motivation, or simply a group of fellow creatives who get it, we invite you to join us. Let’s build a creative community - one word at a time.

📅 Meeting Times: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.

Jessica

Jessica is a Young Adult Librarian at the Green Hills branch. Some of her favorite things are reading, writing, coffee, her husband, and her cats – all the stereotypical librarian things. When she’s not at the library, you can probably find her curled up on the couch playing Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley on her Nintendo Switch.
