Amanda's Best of 2024 - Nonfiction Edition

December 12, 2024

I don’t know about your year, but 2024 has been a little bumpy for me and mine. Let’s just say the highlight was when the company we hired to install new floors flooded our house because they incorrectly reattached the fridge. And it was all downhill from there. Good times. At least I had my book friends to keep me out of trouble. Here are my favorite nonfiction reads from this tumultuous year.

Imagine the first 10 seasons of DragRace getting together for a big reunion show. That’s what this book is like. It’s fun to have the insider track to what the contestants were thinking about their seasons and others. The love! The tea! The shade! If you are any kind of DragRace fan, you don’t want to miss this one.

I never got to see Rush (the band) live, so I have to make do with fun books like this one. It was 510 pages of Rush magic. Read this, read Neil Peart’s books, and then listen to Rush. I recommend Moving Pictures.

Great read about The Windows on the World - the restaurant on the top floor of the World Trade Center. I didn’t know much about the restaurant. Not sure I could have even visited because it was so high up. I’m sure the logistics were a nightmare. Was fascinating to read about though.

I consider myself a huge Gilmore Girls fan - so how come I didn’t know all this about Kelly? I didn’t know she was in the original cast of A Chorus Line, or that she won a Tony for her role. This was a great read, especially considering that I just finished watching GG for the nth time

If your year was has been as fraught as mine, perhaps you are looking for something more inspirational than escapist. This book has excellent insights on how not to hate each other so much. It's work we all need to do.

Ok, friends, those are my latest jams. Hope one peaks your interest.

Happy being real…(get it, cuz Nonfic is real?),
