Online Programs Offer Homeschool Help, Story Times for All Ages, and More
Take a Look at What our Children’s Department is up to in February
Nashville — thank you for making January such a great month for Nashville Public Library (NPL)!
The folks in our Children’s Department at the Main Library had so much fun as they welcomed old friends and new faces back for their online programs in January. This month, Miss Leanna, Miss Katie, and Miss April have even more fun, engaging things the entire family can enjoy together.
Babies and Books
Get ready to read, sing, wiggle, and giggle with your little ones as Miss Leanna hosts Babies and Books every Monday at 10 AM.
In February, Miss Leanna explores some fun topics that your baby is going to love. From the ocean to hugs and kisses to dinosaurs, there’s plenty for fun-loving, curious babies to discover. Miss Leanna teaches American Sign Language (ASL) signs for each new word, and there’s plenty of singing, reading, and wiggling to help your kiddos get an early jump on reading. Plus, you can expect that Peggy Sue the Field Mouse to join in the fun!
Want a sneak peek of what Miss Leanna’s reading? Here’s the Babies and Books reading list for February. Want to get the book list for the following week’s session? Please email Miss Leanna.
Please note: NPL is closed Monday, February 15 in observance of President’s Day. Babies and Books will not air that week.
Homeschool Friends
For homeschooling families, Homeschool Friends might just be the best-kept secret in Nashville (that no one’s trying to keep secret)!
This month, Miss Katie leads families through the world of computer coding. From the basics of coding to an intro to programming languages to exploring careers in computer sciences, attendees have plenty to learn and discover this month, with ample hands-on activities included.
Here’s the breakdown of what each week brings.
- Week 1: “Game Day!” - Introductions and games to connect with new families participating in Homeschool Friends.
- Week 2: “What is Coding?” - Introduction to coding, exploration of how and why we use it, and games to introduce the very basics.
- Week 3: “Programming Languages” - Discussion of the different coding languages, and a hands-on activity to create your own programming language using emojis.
- Week 4: “The Future of Coding” - Discussion of career fields and the future of coding, with related games and an activity.
If you can’t wait to dive into the world of coding, check out Miss Katie’s reading list for this month. Please note: titles are subject to change.
