Studio NPL Teams with Southern Word to Engage City’s Youth with Creative Workshops

With COVID-19 still in full swing, many of you have been restricted to your homes, only venturing out for food, gas, and (yet another) walk around the block. If that weren’t enough, schools are hosting all classes online right now to keep us safe, meaning you don’t get to see your friends as much as you’d like.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. At Nashville Public Library (NPL), our team has been hard at work figuring out new ways to keep you engaged, with online programs covering everything from literacy tips to weekly yoga sessions. And we’re just getting started.

Beginning Monday, August 31, Studio NPL, our library’s maker-space for all things technology and creativity-driven, is partnering with Southern Word, an organization focused on fostering creativity through mentorship of young people, to launch a new wave of awesome programs to grow the creators of tomorrow.

What Are These Programs About?

It’s about you and the power you possess through creativity.

Via Zoom, Studio NPL and Southern Word are offering weekly meet-ups focused on completing projects in a wide array of creative topics. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the art of songwriting, craft your own short stories, get started in 3D printing, and more, you’re going to love what we’ve got to share.

Each session is led by a dedicated mentor, who shares their skills and experience to help you develop as an artist, producer, or maker. You’ll also be connecting with young people just like you who yearn to create works that resonate. You’ll be learning, growing, and sharing your work with people just like you, creating networks for future success.

What Do I Need to Participate?

A desire to create and a willingness to learn — that’s it.

These workshops are designed so that whether you're a seasoned creator looking to expand your skills, or looking to start your creative journey, you’ll find something you’ll love.

While we encourage you to attend every session, and grow with everyone participating, it isn’t essential. Our mentors will ensure that everyone stays on the same page.

If you’ve got an Internet connection, and the time to join us, we’ll take care of the rest.

How Do I Join In?
