Like making fun of bad movies? We've dug through the recesses of Hoopla to find the worst special effects, the most ridiculous plots, and all the camp. But that’s not all. For each pair of movies, we offer an alternative good book for your reading pleasure. Check out our “between worlds” fantasy picks for September below.

Between Worlds Double Feature

Mazes and Monsters (1982)

When a group of college kids start playing Mazes and Monsters (a.k.a. Dungeons & Dragons), it's all fun and games until one of them gets too wrapped up in the fantasy world. Will the guild be able to save their friend? Tom Hanks stars in this “satanic panic” made-for-TV movie adaptation of the novel by Rona Jaffe.

The Secret Kingdom (1997)

Three siblings discover a tiny secret kingdom under their kitchen sink and get mixed up in its civil war. Will they be able to restore peace to the land and return home? Horror director David Schmoeller (Tourist Trap, Puppet Master) brings us this bizarre 90s fantasy.
