This story is the fifth part of a year-long series. Read the previous entry here.

The weather in Nashville has been pretty dreary lately, but our lil’ readers don’t mind.

After all — rainy days are the perfect time to cozy up with a great book!

And there’s been a lot of reading for Goldie, Poppy, and Ray this month as they explore new shapes, sounds, and animals with Read to Rise at Nashville Public Library (NPL).

Last Book Read: Square by Mac Barnett
“This was the book that taught Ray the difference between square and circle for the very first time!” said Yurina, Ray’s mother. “The black and white illustrations are gorgeous, and Ray gets a kick out of me doing different voices for the two main characters. I think this will be a good book to come back to again and again as Ray grows older.”

Favorite Thing from Reading this Month: “This month, Ray learned to say hippo and gecko from the book Hello Baby! by Mem Fox,” Yurina said. “It features all other kinds of animals, including elephants and porcupines (which are still tricky words for him to say). We first encountered this book at a library story time and were lucky to snag a copy.”

Last Book Read: Silly Sally by Audrey Wood

Favorite Thing from Reading this Month: “We gained a new appreciation for sheep from One Little Lamb by Elaine Greenstein, which provides a basic overview of how wool is processed, from sheep to yarn to mittens!” said Virginia, Poppy and Goldie’s mother.
