The goal of this day is “to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.” Libraries will host special programs and events to celebrate our national love of video and board games.

Why play games at the library?

As Mr. Rogers once said, “Play is serious business,” and it is an essential part of learning. Through playing games, children learn how to share, take turns, and communicate. It’s beneficial for many other reasons too, like advancing physical development and building imagination. The library provides a space in which many diverse users have the opportunity to interact through fun and games.
