A Message from the Nashville Public Library Family
For thirty years, Margaret Ann Robinson poured her intelligence, wit, and energy into Nashville Public Library.
She left an impression of grace and warmth on the Nashville Public Library family. Margaret Ann taught us that the Library is one big gathering place, where we can all belong to something great, together.
That’s the example we will all strive to carry forward.
Margaret Ann first became a Library Board member in 1977.
From 1986 until 2011, she served as Board chair, helping usher our Library through significant growth.
For example, Margaret Ann was a major force in getting the community support needed to build a new, 300,000-square-foot Main Library in downtown Nashville, as well as five new branch libraries at Madison, Bordeaux, Hermitage, Green Hills, and Edmondson Pike.
The Robinson Courtyard on the second floor of the Main Library was a personal gift from Margaret Ann and her husband, Walter Robinson, Jr. It is one of the happiest places in this building, and we think that is no coincidence.
Margaret Ann served on the Nashville Public Library Board until her death. We are grateful for her leadership, her devotion, and her personal generosity through the Nashville Public Library Foundation.
But what we will miss the most about Margaret Ann are her spirit and her smile.
